Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I choose Lainey's Grooming? With Lainey’s Grooming, your pet receives calm, one-on-one care from start to finish. Each pet is treated like my own, with extra attention given to comfort, patience, and individual needs. I take additional steps for pets with sensitivities or anxiety and never rush the grooming process. While grooming isn’t every pet’s favorite thing, a gentle and compassionate approach makes all the difference.
What is House-Call Grooming? House-Call is similar to mobile but the entirety of the groom is completed inside your own home. (More info on the home page.)
Does my pet need a leash or carrier? Yes. All pets must be secured either by carrier or leash for mobile services.
How long will it take to groom? Can range from 1.5 to 4 hours for a full grooming service. This can depend on several factors such as groom style, behavior, matting, etc.
How do you know your exact arrival time? Appointment times are given based on an estimate for the groom time of the previous appointment as well as travel time. However, please allow a 15 minute window after your appointment time before contacting your groomer. Please prepare in the case your appointment gets pushed back, can be up to 1 hour. This is a failsafe should a previous groom have unexpected matting, travel issues, equipment failure, etc. You will be notified prior to appointment.
Do you brush teeth? No. Teeth brushing is essentially ineffective when only brushed every couple weeks. I don't wish to give you a false sense of comfort. I do provide a breath spray to help with smell!
Can I stay and watch my pet? No. The main reason is pets get very distracted when their owner is present and its pretty much impossible to groom them safely. In certain situations such as nail trims the groomer may ask for your assistance on a case by case basis.
Do you trim double-coated dogs? Coat type varies by dog. For mixed breeds, its up to the discretion of the groomer. If your pets coat is already damaged, it's recommended they be put on a regular grooming schedule to try to recover their coat. Double or triple coated breeds such as Husky, Malamute, Samoyed, etc. shaving can permanently damage the coat. Even a single shave may disrupt regrowth, causing the undercoat to grow over the topcoat. This leads to excessive shedding, coat buildup, matting, and difficulty regulating body temperature. Over time, this can increase the risk of overheating and heat-related illness. Please do not shave your dog unless it is medically necessary or the only humane option.
Do you shave down pets? Dogs: Only if they are severely matted and shaving is the only humane option. Short cuts its recommended they be kept out of the sun or apply pet sunscreen. Cats: Indoor cats only, or cats with severe matting. Outdoor cats that require a shave due to matting must be kept indoors afterward to reduce risk of exposure. All pets: A pet’s coat is their first line of defense against dirt, bacteria, and harmful UV rays. Their skin is much thinner than human skin and isn’t designed to be fully exposed, which is why shaving is not recommended unless medically necessary.
Do you groom puppies? Yes! Puppies can be groomed as early as 10 weeks. It's recommended they be introduced to grooming at an early age to develop a positive experience and prevent anxiety. Puppies are a case by case basis. Generally it's best to not do a full haircut because that can be very overwhelming for a first grooming experience. Scheduling a smaller service or puppy trim is a great way to start off your puppy's grooming journey!
Can you groom my blind or arthritic pet? Yes. I have experience grooming geriatric pets as well as disabled. If a dog is not being held it is placed in a pet hammock, a device that hangs from hooks, wraps around the pets belly and allows the legs to hang down freely. They are completely secure and are never left unsupervised. For bathing, a leash suction tether is secured to the sink and attached to your pet to prevent accidental wandering or escape. It's recommended to give your pet pain medication prior to the groom service to alleviate the discomfort that can come with being groomed as an elderly pet. Additional charges may apply for geriatric and disabled pets.
What forms of payment are accepted? Cash, Credit/Debit, Venmo, and Zelle
