Each person you ask will tell you something different. Keep in mind, the more frequently your pet goes through the grooming process, the more used to getting poked and prodded they are. Grooming is stressful for your pet so the more they get used to it, the less stressful it becomes. If your pet is geriatric or has other medically relevant issues this may not apply. And while you may appreciate the idea of lots of frequent grooms helping your pets health and wellness, sometimes we underestimate or are not informed accurately about how much your pet may cost to groom.
With all this in mind, it's best to figure out your pets grooming schedule based on each pet individually. All pets are different, different activity levels and different hair types, thickness, even growth. Owners are also all different, the amount of grooming you do at home as a pet owner will also impact how frequently your pet needs grooming. Owners know their pets best, try to keep track of how fast their hair grows and/or their nails, factoring in home grooming as well. Schedule their grooms accordingly!
A LOT of pet owners assume because their pet is running around and licking your face that they are not in pain. Mats can range from uncomfortable to extremely painful, even the small ones. They pull and tug with your pets every move. As soon as you start to see those small mats, your pet needed their groom the day before. Having a brushing routine is a good way to check in with your pets coat and of course prevents matting.
Look up their last groom and you can then figure out how frequent to schedule. If you choose to groom with me, let me know how many weeks your pet has before they start getting those mats and we can reschedule accordingly. I will ask you to confirm the appointment 24-48 hours ahead of time, if its no longer convenient for you simply contact me to reschedule!
